True Mind + Body offers a variety of testing services, including neuropsychological, psychological, and educational evaluations to assess for learning disabilities, ADHD, emotional disorders, and cognitive disorders.
These evaluations can be helpful in a variety of situations, including:
- to determine whether medication may be needed to address a disorder such as ADHD; to assist with helping a child receive an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or a 504 plan;
- to secure accommodations in the secondary school and college setting and, if needed, accommodations on standardized tests such as those used for college placement;
- to discover the student’s strengths and weaknesses as well as the best learning environment to the meet a student’s needs; and
- to identify learning strategies that are geared toward the individual based upon the test results, with coaching available to assist the parents and the child in implementing these strategies.
Each neuropsychological evaluation consists of: a personal interview of the child, separate interview with the parents, a four to six hour assessment of attention, memory, language, visuospatial abilities, sensory/motor functions, problem solving, and specific academic skills, a feedback session with the parents, and a lengthy narrative report which includes results of the assessment, specific recommendations at school and at home. These reports can also be given to schools and testing agencies such as the ACT, SAT, or other standardized agencies.
These services will be offered by Dr. Felicia Carmel, who is independently contracted with True Mind + Body.
